DAn's fistula is 'blooming' well and the 'thrill' is strong. What that means is that the vein is handling the strong flow of blood very well. The 'Thrill' is what they call the feeling/vibration felt when you touch the site of the fistula. It feels as if he has a battery, you can really feel the flow. It is really amazing.
We don't know exactly when he will begin dialysis. It depends on his labs. He is feeling okay, tired but not exhausted.
Dan's sister will not be able to be in the 'paired donation' program due to problems with her kidney function. This is all news to her. She was sure that she would be able to give her kidney to help Dan...So we keep looking.
This blog is for Dan Krinsky, co-chef and co-owner of Tierra restaurant in Atlanta and my husband. Dan is 52 years old and was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease in 2003. We thought that he would be able to live without complications for at least 10 more years but his kidney function deteriorated much faster and his kidneys got to the point where he needed a transplant. After two and half years and 8 potential donors, we finally got a kidney. This is our story.

Patients with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) like Dan are highly encouraged to get a living donor as soon as possible since their overall health is good except for their kidneys.
We made Dan’s plight public in the hope that someone would want to be our hero and give Dan a kidney.
